WELCOMEThank you for taking the time to visit the Andover Township Police Department Web Site. The site provides a great opportunity for residents of Andover Township and the surrounding communities to further their knowledge about the department. We encourage everyone to return from time to time as the site will be kept up-to-date with important information regarding the Police Department and Andover Township. Programs such as child seat inspections, gun lock safety, and D.A.R.E. will be available on the web site. We are encouraged this will act as a strong tool towards enhancing our community policing efforts within Andover Township. Coleman joined the Andover Township Police Department in December of 1978. He attended various police training schools sponsored by numerous federal, state, county and local government entities. These courses included many criminal investigative and supervision classes. Chief Coleman attended the West Point Leadership and Command School sponsored by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police and the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in October of 1985 and served as the patrol division supervisor until April of 2000. Chief Coleman was then promoted to Lieutenant until March of 2003 when he was promoted to the rank of Chief of Police. He is a member of the Sussex County Association of Chiefs of Police, the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 177. DEPARTMENT MISSIONTo promote public safety; to prevent, suppress and investigate crimes; to provide emergency and non-emergency services; to create and maintain strong community partnerships; to adapt a multi-disciplinary approach to solving community problems; and to develop and promote a diverse, professional workforce.
