Brian T. Kern

Brian T. Kern, 25, of Andover Township
died Monday, April 19, 2010. Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday
at St. Andrews Greek Orthodox Church, Sussex
Turnpike, Randolph. Interment will follow in
Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery in Green
Township. Visitation will be held on
Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the
First Presbyterian Church, 54 High St.,
Newton. Arrangements are under the direction
of the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High

Born in Newton, Brian was raised in Andover
Township. He was a 2003 graduate of Newton
High School, a 2006 graduate of Seton Hall,
where he graduated with honors, and was also
a 2006 graduate of the Essex County Police
Academy. Brian was a police officer with the
Andover Township Police Department. He had
previously worked as a dispatcher for the
Hopatcong and South Orange police
departments, and also worked as a deputy
sheriff for Essex County. A member of Holy
Trinity Orthodox Church in Randolph, Brian
was a former member of the Lakeland
Emergency Squad. Brian was predeceased by
his paternal grandparents, Edna and Charles
Kern, and his maternal grandfather, John F.
Gornick. He is survived by his parents,
Janice and Bob Kern, of Andover Township;
his brother, Danny Kern, of Andover
Township, who is also a police officer with
the Andover Township Police Department; the
love of his life, Caitlin Meskill, of
Durham, Conn.; his maternal grandmother,
Dorothy Gornick, of Manchester Township, and
his godmother, Gertrude Mullaney, of Dover.
